Mao Zedong died
The chairman of the Chinese Communist Party died in Beijing aged eighty-two, having led China since 1949. Within a month the Gang of Four had been arrested and the Cultural Revolution was effectively over.
What followed changed the economic shape of the whole world, though almost nobody watching the news that night would have guessed it.
“Which world leader’s death felt like the end of an era to you?”
