Candlestick Park in San Francisco, about twenty-five thousand people in a stadium built for far more, and a set of eleven songs that nobody in the audience could hear over the screaming. They had stopped being able to hear themselves years earlier.

They never toured again. They went into the studio instead and made Sgt. Pepper, which is arguably the best decision in the history of popular music.
